The effective date of your membership is the first day of the month following your application approval and payment of the initial Share Amount. This means your membership is active, and sharing can then begin.
The Ministry encourages all members to read the Sharing Guidelines for complete information since there are sharing limits within your membership that are important to note:
- For the first 90 days of your membership, only bills resulting from injury, acute illness, or accident are eligible for sharing with a set share limit.
- Some pre-existing conditions have a waiting period before they are eligible for sharing.
- Specific conditions and specific treatments might not be shareable in the first 12 months of membership.
- You must meet your Annual Unshared Amount (AUA) before the Ministry can share eligible medical bills.
