Data Privacy Notice

Samaritan Ministries International ("SMI" or "we") is a voluntary, distinctively Christian community that is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit health care sharing ministry. As a Christian ministry, we believe that data privacy and security is a moral stewardship obligation. As a health care sharing ministry, we understand the importance and sensitivity of your health information. We protect your information because it is the right thing to do, and we endeavor to maintain your trust and privacy in the use of the data we collect, as described below.
This Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice supplements our primary Privacy Notice, which describes how we handle most of your personal information across our services and our websites, including SamaritanMinistries.Org and RedeemHealthShare.Org ("Website(s)"). This Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice explains our practices for "Consumer Health Data" as defined by and required under Washington's My Health My Data Act ("MHMDA") and Nevada's Consumer Health Data Privacy law ("NV CHDP") and applies only to personal information that may be considered "Consumer Health Data" under those laws. "Consumer Health Data" means personal information reasonably linkable to a consumer and that identifies past, present or future physical or mental health status, including information about medical conditions as well as non-medical information.
Categories of Consumer Health Data Collected
Individual Health-Related Conditions | Information identifying a health condition, treatment, disease, diagnosis, status of conditions, mental health, pre-existing conditions, reproductive health, sexual health, medical services received, treatments, and prescriptions. Information that identifies an individual’s intention to seek health care services. |
Medical Billing Information | Good faith estimates, payments on medical bills, and discounts on medical bills. |
Medical Device Information | Medical devices prescribed or purchased. |
Provider Information | Medical provider name, medical provider contact information, and information could reasonably indicate an attempt to acquire or receive health services or supplies |
Use of Consumer Health Data
We may use Consumer Health Data, such as described above, for the purpose of providing you with health care sharing services, processing bills you send us, facilitating the sharing and prayers from other members, communicating with you and your household, and securing, troubleshooting, and improving our health care sharing services.
Collection of Consumer Health Data
As described further in the Privacy Notice, we collect consumer health data directly from you or a member of your household, automatically as you navigate website or apps related to the services, from third parties, and from publicly available sources.
Samaritan Ministries does not sell member’s personal information, including Consumer Health Data, to others. We only disclose Consumer Health Data as you directed for the purpose of providing health care sharing services or as explained in this section.
We share Consumer Health Data with other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf, such as processing and negotiating bills, sending postal mail and email, analyzing data, and providing certain services to members. These service providers may have access to Consumer Health Data needed to perform their functions but may not use it for other purposes. We also share Consumer Health Data with other members of Samaritan Ministries, our affiliated ministries, third parties we use to help us run our ministry (such as technology services or website hosts), third parties approved by you, and financial institutions.
How a consumer can exercise the rights
If the MHMDA or NV CHDP applies to you, then you may exercise your rights respecting your Consumer Health Data by contacting SMI’s Compliance department at Compliance@SamaritanMinistries.org. You may also have the right to appeal the denial of any of these rights by submitting a form that will be provided to you if we deny a data request. Depending on your choices, certain services may be limited or unavailable. To ensure the security of your account, we will generally ask you to verify your request using the information you have already provided.
Updates to this Consumer Health Data Disclosure.
Samaritan Ministries may also update this Disclosure to reflect ministry practices and changes in the law. Provided that Samaritan Ministries will not materially change our policies and practices to make them less protective of member information collected in the past without the consent of affected members. You should check our website frequently to see recent changes. We will update the date at the top of this Disclosure.
